Cayman Islands Complete Historic Caribbean Cup with Five Medals and Podium Finishes for Every Team

The Cayman Islands capped off an outstanding U23 3×3 Caribbean Cup campaign with another impressive showing in Stop 2, as every Cayman team competing finished on the podium.

After capturing double gold in Stop 1, Cayman returned for Stop 2 and added two silver medals and a bronze, bringing the country’s total across the two tournaments to an historic five medals — two gold, two silver and one bronze.

Cayman Women and Men Claim Silver

Both the Cayman Islands Women’s Team and the Cayman Islands Men’s Team entered Stop 2 as the reigning champions after going undefeated and capturing gold in Stop 1.

Their strong form continued during Stop 2, with both teams once again going undefeated through round-robin play and advancing to their respective championship games.

The Bahamas, however, responded to the results of Stop 1 with adjustments that proved decisive in the finals. Those changes gave the Bahamian teams the edge they needed to dethrone the Stop 1 champions, with Cayman finishing with silver in both divisions.

While falling just short of consecutive gold medals was disappointing, reaching back-to-back championship games represents an exceptional achievement for both Cayman squads.

Cayman Storm Adds Bronze

The success did not stop there.

Cayman’s second men’s entry, Cayman Storm, completed the tournament with a bronze medal, ensuring that every Cayman team entered in the Caribbean Cup finished on the podium.

The Cayman Storm roster featured:

  • Liam Ramoon
  • Griffin MacDonald
  • Joshua Barrett
  • Jordan Dyke

Their bronze medal was another important demonstration of the depth developing within Cayman’s young 3×3 programme.

Rather than having success limited to one group of athletes, Cayman was able to field multiple competitive teams capable of earning medals at the regional level.

Five Medals for Cayman 🇰🇾

Across the two Caribbean Cup stops, Cayman produced an exceptional medal haul:

🥇 Stop 1 – Women: GOLD
🥇 Stop 1 – Men: GOLD
🥈 Stop 2 – Women: SILVER
🥈 Stop 2 – Men (Cayman Hurricanes): SILVER
🥉 Stop 2 – Cayman Storm: BRONZE

Five medals. Five podium finishes. Every Cayman team on the podium.

It represents a historic performance for Cayman Islands 3×3 basketball and provides further evidence of the progress being made within the national programme.

And They’re Just Getting Started

Perhaps the most exciting part of these results is the age of the athletes producing them.

Although competing in the U23 division, Cayman’s teams were primarily composed of 18- and 19-year-old players.

That means many of these athletes potentially have another three, four or even five years of eligibility remaining at this level.

The Caribbean Cup therefore wasn’t simply about winning medals. It provided valuable international competition, exposed our young athletes to different styles of play and gave them an opportunity to learn how opponents adjust from one tournament to the next.

Those experiences will be invaluable as the programme continues to develop.

The Cayman Islands Basketball Association is tremendously proud of the way all of our teams competed and represented the country.

The medals are an achievement worth celebrating, but perhaps the most exciting takeaway is what they represent for the future.

Two Gold. Two Silver. One Bronze. Five Podium Finishes.

Cayman 3×3 is building — and the road ahead is incredibly exciting.
